Grand Ridge Manor: Featured Venue

Grand Ridge Manor is a great venue! If you live north or south of Bellevue, this is a great venue to check out! This gorgeous mansion is located in Issaquah, Washington. It provides the perfect wedding in a secluded area but with very easy access to the city. The venue is surrounded by a beautiful scenery of forests and a view of Cougar & Tiger Mountain; perfect for wedding photos! The Grand Ridge Manor has a private 35 acres that has a natural pond with a running waterfall and fountain in the pond.  We have had a wedding planned with Karly and Brett, the couple that I wrote my previous blog on. I was an intern when I worked with this lovely couple and I was truly blessed to be working with them to make their day and night as perfect as they wanted it to be at The Grand Ridge Manor. The cooks and staff were so amazing and extremely helpful. I can honestly say that, this venue was one of the most beautiful venues I've ever seen in my wedding planning career!

Here's a little tour of the place and some pictures taken of Karly and Brett at their wedding!

Real Wedding: Marta & Sean- Woodinville, Wa

When you see the pictures below, you may think, no way, these aren't real people, they are too good looking they must be models?! We thought so too. That is why we used them as models in our fun photo shoot a few months before their wedding; a fun Mid-Century Industrial themed shoot with Cheryl Ford Photography at Westland Distillery. Anyway, Marta & Sean are an awesome (and yes, very good looking) couple from Kirkland that we just adore. In fact, Sean is the owner of Pike Street Press, which recently opened a second shop in Kirkland.

They got married at the always beautiful De Lille Cellars, the most picturesque winery location in Woodinville. The theme was simple yet beautiful, Eastern European yet Mediterranean with lots of greenery and hints of gold.

Guests enjoyed the fabulous music from Chris Anderson, who DJ'd and also serenaded guests during dinner. Tasty food was provided by Skillet and delicious cake from Hoffman's Fine Pastries and DERU Market.

Gorgeous flowers were provided by Fena and most importantly, beautiful photos from Carina Skrobecki Photography!

Meet our Interns!

Hey there! This summer has been flying by! Wedding season is in full swing, and we are grateful to have a little help this summer. We have two amazing new interns on our team this year and would love to share a little about them! Meet Samantha & Kate! Samantha K.DSC_1743d

Tell us about where your from and what you are in school for. I was born in San Jose, CA but at age of 5 I moved to Poland and lived there for 15 years. I came to Seattle around 5 years ago. I chose Seattle because it’s a very artistic city which I love and also I have family here and since I was moved from a completely different culture, I thought I would need some help and it’s always nice to have someone around just in case. (Sam is in school for event planning at Edmonds CC)

What is your favorite Disney movie? I love all the old school Disney movies like “Dumbo” or “ 101 Dalmatians” but my favorite would be “Mulan”. I love how that movie shows little girls that women can do incredible things as good or event better then men. I always had a strong female figures around me growing up so I always love watching women kick ass.

If you had to choose your last meal ever, what would it be? Lemon soup... I know it sounds weird but my mom makes the best lemon soup, it’s served with rice. I think it’s known only in Poland but I love it!

Why wedding planning? I always enjoyed planning parties for family and friends everyone always seemed to really enjoyed my parties. I never thought I would fall in love with weddings so much but it’s such a beautiful celebration of life and being part of this magical day, a new beginning in couples life, it brings me a lot of joy. I always wanted to do something that will make people smile and I finally found it. I feel like a fairy godmother and it’s the best feeling in the world to know you made someone’s dream come true. This is the day they will be remembering for the rest of their lives and I couldn't be more honored to be part of it.

Your favorite thing about working for IYDEE? I love working with Christina & Ashley because they let me try new things and are just really fun to work with. I get to learn and experience something new  every single time. For someone who’s just starting out like myself, Ashley & Christina are ideal mentors and I’m just really happy I get to work with them, very inspiring young women.

Your guilty pleasure? Green mint ice cream! I can eat tons of it and don’t care how fat it will make me.

What is your Starbucks order? Cinnamon dolche late

Something a lot of people don't know about me is: Something a lot of people don’t know about me is in my free time I write song lyrics. Most people write in diaries and I write lyrics about my life.

In this job, I learned that when I get married, I : In this job, I learned that when I get married, I will know how to stay on budget. For me it has always been the biggest problem as well as I learned a lot about importance of details. But I think the most important part will be to have an event coordinator day of. I don’t want to stress out and worry about time or if all the vendors are on time so I will definitely have someone to take care of it so I can enjoy my day.

Your personal advice for the newly engaged bride?  My personal advice for a bride to be would be definitely hire a wedding coordinator; if you can’t afford full planning then at least day of. A lot of people think it’s easy but it’s so much more work, most people don’t realize, to have a professional to help you that way you can be positive you will have a dream wedding. Also give yourself enough time to plan everything slowly step by step.

In this job, I learned that when I get married: I'll have a tough time making decisions. There are so many options!

Personal advice for the newly engaged bride:Relax! Planning your wedding should be enjoyable, and having the help of wedding coordinators like Ashley and Christina will make the process a whole lot easier, less stressful, and more fun!

Cheers,

Ashley

Why I {Ashley} wanted to be a Wedding Planner!

In high school, I was very active in my school's DECA (Marketing) class/club. My first year in the class as a Junior, our teacher, Mr. P had assigned myself and 3 of my good friends to be in charge of the Giving Tree event that year. This involved a lot of planning, organizing, and follow through, and this; as far as I can remember, and other then planning out my own birthday parties, was my first real taste of event planning. After the Giving Tree Event, I went on to become the DECA Co-Publicity Director my Senior Year with my friend Kristi and we took on several other small events, and decor scenarios and campaigns etc. From here on out I KNEW I wanted to do something in the event field! When it came time for me to go to college, I chose to go to Western Washington University in beautiful Bellingham and persue my degree in Communication. Communication is more of a broad spectrum degree that can lead to careers in many things, but I did focus my studies on event planning courses and took my final internship course for the Downtown Bellingham Association, helping plan a Summer Outdoor Concert Series. By then, I knew planning events was REALLY what I wanted to do.

So, I had graduated college and a few years had gone by and I had started thinking about how the job I was in wasn't really what I wanted to do, and I still had hopes for my event planning dreams. Meanwhile, many of my friends had started to get married, and I realized what a big, exciting, stressful, fantastic & crazy thing weddings were.

All the while, Christina (my best friend) is off doing her creative thing on the side, like making earrings and creating wedding cards and invites.

We talked it over one day and realized we could definitely combine our forces; with Christina's creative flair and business mind & my event planning sense and both our love for weddings, thus, It's Your Day Events & Expressions was born.

For those who don't know, the "Expressions" side of our business is Christina's super creative invites, table numbers, menus, save-the-dates, favor tags, buntings, cake-toppers, cupcake flags etc!

We have been in business for over 4 years and loved every minute of it! We have been in King 5's Best of Western Washington Top 5 Wedding Planner for the last 3 years in a row!

The thing that I love most about this business is that we get to see an event from start to finish AND all the amazing couples we get to meet. It is truly a humbling experience and an honor to be able to share in their special day. What I love about this job is that I get to do it with my very best friend!Ashley+Christina_sm-093 527043_10100262923720810_275807244_n

Real Wedding {Carly & Jesse} The Harbor Club 6/23/12

Carly & Jesse are the classic story of young love. She was a sorority girl & he a frat boy...need we say more? Well, we will! The beautiful ceremony took place at the charming Bellevue First Congressional Church and the reception was held high amongst the city of Bellevue on the 25th floor of the Symetra Financial Building, downtown. Needless to say, the views were breathtaking. The decor was simple, classic, and mostly purple! With an amazing staff and crew, the evening went off beautifully. The bride looked absolutely radiant and the groom happy and handsome as ever!

The night did not end until both the sorority and frat had each done their special chant to celebrate the event.

At evening end, the bride & groom whisked off in the limo headed to their hotel, then off to Oahu! Congrats to Carly & Jesse!

REAL WEDDING~ {Kim & Kevin}~ 7/21/12

Kim & Kevin are an amazing couple that got married at none other then the Woodland Park ZOO!  The ceremony took place in a beautiful grassy area  called the Beech Grove.  Even though the location was in the middle of the zoo, the surrounding trees made for a very intimate and beautiful ceremony. Afterward, guests retreated to the wonderfully made up Rainforest Cafe to celebrate the new couple. Guests enjoyed a memorable slide show from the fathers and had some fun in the Photo Booth from 3-2-1 Foto. The food was delicious, the dancing was entertaining and the guests were left with a fun and very fitting favor of animal cookies adorned with a cute little thank you note from the couple.

Many congrats to Kim & Kevin!

Real Wedding~ Kirby & Derek 8/11/12

What a great amazing honor to share in the special day of these two! Kirby & Derek are in fact old friends/classmates of ours from high school. However, even though they went to the same HS, they did not know of each other until a chance meeting one day a few years back. (See their "Love Story" in the photos below.) It was a beautiful sunny day on August 11th and the bride looked amazing in her dress, the groom very stunning [slideshow]in his tux, in fact the whole bridal party looked sharp, right down to the 5 flower girls in their black tutus!

The room was adorned in coral, black and ivory with wine bottle and cork accents, with a slight vintage touch. To top it all off was a GI Joe grooms cake and a favor cookie bar from The Cookie Lady!

Congrats Kirby & Derek!

IYD Wedding: Gillian & Mitchell July 21st, 2012

July 21st, 2012! It was a gorgeous day for a wedding on the Kirkland waterfront, at the always lovely Woodmark! We arrived to Woodmark to find the Marina Room filled with Gillian's flowers- they smelled amazing. Her flowers were very romantic and lush; garden roses, lilies, and in her color pallet of coral, white, green with navy blue vases;  crisp and nautical. She was getting ready in her suite, surrounded by all her bridesmaids and moms as the men were getting ready down the way! Gillian looked so beautiful in her lace dress, with an elegant pale grey silk ribbon around her waist. She was a vision! Mitch and his boys looked equally handsome! Courtney Bowlden of Courtney Bowlden Photography was busy snapping up shots of this great couple! Here is a peek into their day!

I loves this last one! It looks as though they are celebrities, making a get away!

Dena & Cameron were the winners of our contest for free Day-of Coordination (see previous post). We were so excited when the day finally arrived and we were able to coordinate their wedding at the absolutely beautiful St. James Cathedral in Seattle. Dena looked amazing in her sleeping beauty dress and Cam so handsome in his tux.

An amazing dessert table was stocked by the wonderful Jenny's Cookies and everyone danced the night away and had a great time in the Fun Booth from Kaylee Eylander Photography.

Friday the 10th of February was a day to remember for these two love birds! What an amazing, amazing wedding. So much love and laughter, and did we mention the cakes? 2012 Color of the Year: Tangerine Tango!

Pantone (an X-Rite company, and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries) has announced the 2012 color of the year, Tangerine Tango! The 2011 color of the year, PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle, encouraged us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy."

Over the past several years, orange has grown in popularity and acceptance among designers and consumers alike. A provocative attention-getter, Tangerine Tango is especially appealing in men’s and women’s fashion. Pantone also adds that  the color is also a winner in cosmetics because of its versatility, Tangerine Tango is a bit exotic, but in a very friendly, non-threatening way. Add a sultry flair to lips, cheeks and nails with Tangerine Tango. An unexpected eye shadow color, the color is a complementary opposite that flatters blue or green eyes. When paired with brown eyes, it brings out an amber cast.

This hot, vibrant color will make a bold statement with any wedding palette. It would be great paired with a yellow or even a cockatoo ( robin egg blue)  or keep it popping  with other hot vibrant colors to accompany it. (See the palette below for some great choices).

Soon you will be able to find the color in your nearest Sephora store as Pantone has partnered with Sephora as SEPHORA + PANTONE UNIVERSE proudly presents the first Color of the Year beauty collection.Hot colors for Spring 2012:

NW Wedding Show!

We had such a great time at the NW Wedding show this past weekend!Despite the snow that held us up on Sunday! There were so many great vendors there like Mojo Photobooth, Bugsie Productions , and Simply Seasoned! Plus many many more! We absolutely loved mingling and networking with all those great vendors! Flowers by Tiffany had a beautiful booth! We also were able to have some photo booth fun at Mojo Photobooth! Our booth consisted of a very fun theme, burlap favors with chocolate, we had wood slabs;  decorated by wild flowers that were held in burlap and lace mason jars! We wanted to thank all those who stopped by our booth and put their information down, we are in the midst of getting all that data in our system and we will be contacting you shortly. We wanted to welcome Tara and Josh to the It's Your Day family who had booked us at the show! We do look forward to speaking and meeting with you all! Also, we wanted to let any other brides, grooms and or parents looking for planning or wedding day coordination know that we are running our special from the show until February 29th! 15% off any package!

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Wedding Shows

So you are engaged! Or maybe one of your good friends are? Well congratulations! It's that time of year, where a huge surge in wedding shows is upon us. There are tons of shows in January and several on weekends even weekday nights throughout the remainder of the year. Some are large, some are more intimate. It can be really confusing to sort out and get the best vendors among whose-who especially at the larger shows such as The Seattle Wedding Show, The NW Bridal Expo, and the Seattle or Tacoma Wedding Expo's (from Brides Club).

Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your experience when visiting wedding shows:

1. Look for vendors who look like they are actually happy to be there and are engaging. Some people can be too pushy however. Don't let anyone push you in to anything you don't want. Interact with the vendors and get to know them a little. These are people who will be servicing you on one of the biggest days of your life. If you do not like them as a person why would you hire them?

2. Once you do get to know the vendors and there is someone you do like or someone you don't like, how are you going to remember them out of the hundreds of booths you are visiting that day? Do one of two things: Either bring a little note pad and make notes of names of companies you really did like or bring  a few colors of sticky notes and stick them on the brochures, flyers and cards given out by companies. You can use for example green for places you loved, yellow for places that were so-so and red/pink for places that were a huge no way! (Get the metaphor relation to a traffic light there?) Since they are sticky notes you can also make notes on them if you have the chance.

3. Look for vendors who are having sales specifically for the show or a short period of time. Many vendors offer special rates at the bridal shows, while others do not. Look for the ones who are offering a quality product but yet a special rate for you to take advantage of. Lots of places will give out free favors too! Loot score! (Make sure you get the free tote bag at the entrance).

4. If you haven't picked out a wedding cake (or if you are hungry even), make sure to stop by all the delicious cake booths offering samples. It is a great way to try out many bakeries all in one stop without having to travel all around the Sound to find that perfect cake or cupcakes or desert!

5. Lots of times you might see a great idea at a show as well. You might see a dress at a bridal booth you love or a flower centerpiece or a table display from a wedding planner or rental company that you just must have. That is why its always a great idea to have a camera. Sure you can write your ideas in your notepad but your camera will help you remember your idea even better, plus you and your MOH or fiance can document your fun experience. A picture is worth a thousand words, right?

6.  At shows, nearly every vendor/booth is offering some sort of drawing. Save your hand some pain and strain and print your self out some pre-addressed labels. Make sure they include your phone # and/or email so they can contact you if and when you do win!

Our Photo Shoot with Cindi + Chris Photography!

A month or so ago Wedding Wire came to Seattle for an event that we had decided to go to, for networking, and the social media seminar that they were presenting. It was packed and there were so many wedding professionals there! In the middle of the room this very nice duo introduced themselves as Cindi and Chris, and we found ourselves learning about their photography business and in turn, us telling them about our wedding planning business. We exchanged cards and enjoyed the rest of the evening, tasting appetizers, sipping wine, and talking with other professionals. The very next morning, we received a very prompt email from that wonderful photography couple; following up to our networking from the previous night, offering to take some time and have a photo shoot with us. We were so humbled by the courtesy of making sure they contacted us the next day and then by adding the photo shoot to that! We agreed and set it up for a chilly Sunday morning in November...

We met Cindi & Chris of Cindi + Chris Photography at the Hollywood School House in Woodinville. It was FREEZING! That is no understatement! But it was a beautiful day, the morning was crisp the sun was breaking in and Cindi and Chris were full of smiles and ready to snap their Cannon cameras :)

It was a total BLAST to work with them! They both do a great job working off each other. Where one is at one angle or shot, the other will quickly look at another angle all the while creating beautiful photography.  Their energy is very inviting and fun to be around, as we laughed, joked and talked shop throughout the shoot.  I could easily see a Bride, or couple who hates their picture taken, really feel at ease with these two, making it easy for her to not pay attention so much to the camera but to really have fun with these two professionals, and get amazing pictures in the end.

We made our way to Chateau Ste Michelle Winery, where we played in the leaves and really let loose! It was a lot of fun as they both inspired us to throw leaves in the air and be care free! We both felt completely comfortable in front of the camera (even though we both have non- photogenic issues. ) In the end we got to know a really genuine set of Seattle photographers, their pictures are proof of their work! We are so thrilled to have got to work with them, and we can’t wait to do a wedding and or an event together soon!

REAL WEDDINGS: Jill & Trevor, June 18, 2011

Jill & Trevor were amazing to work with.  Jill is a fellow industry event planner and is super sweet, and we were thrilled to get to work with her and get the feed back! It was so much fun during our design session collaborating with her and honing in on her theme of vintage balloons, books & suitcases-- we went wild with  ideas! In the end it all came together, resulting in a incredibly beautiful design element for her day. The weather had been on and off rainy that week and the forecast was calling for rain that Saturday, but Jill really wanted to get married outside under the beautiful pergola at Sanders Mansion. In the end, the call had to be made to move the ceremony under the tent. Anna Brandt and her team of Distinctive Designs did a great job of making the tent look amazing inside. They had stunning centerpieces surrounded by tea lights. The sweetheart table was adorned with grey and white glassybabys, that are handblown here in Seattle. Each glassybaby is a one of a kind, and they donate a great deal of their profits to amazing charities.

Before making her walk down the aisle the bride got ready in the upstairs room of the mansion with her beautiful girls dressed in stylish gray dresses. Jill did something we hadn't seen before which was several "first look's". Not only did she make the groom wait to see her until she was done getting ready but her mother, and father and soon to be mother-in-law all took turns seeing her in her bridal suite, each teary-eyed with hugs.

The guys were dressed in gray too, a different shade, a nice classy suit, with converse shoes-all with their last name sewn in- very stylish~![slideshow]

The guests were given umbrellas to stroll the grounds and to make their way down to the tent. Everyone piled in as the rain poured making for a cozy intimate setting filled with love.

After the ceremony, the guests enjoyed some delicious appetizers, followed by a buffet dinner from Act 3 Catering listening to a great playlist of songs spun by Sound-A-Bout music. Everyone was moving and grooving all night long! Finally the Bride and Groom departed on the bus with some of the other guests! We were so very lucky to work with such an amazing pair of people! We were also so surprised to receive an amazing gift from Jill, two of our very own glassybabys!

What an amazing day!

Dena's entry essay on why she should win:

I believe that Cameron and I should win the “Win a FREE Day-Of Coordination Package!” because not only do we love each other, we have been through several ups and downs in the past two and a half years. Cam and I met online, but it wasn’t love at first sight. We started off as friends, but slowly but surely, Cam convinced me to become his girlfriend. We were both unemployed for nearly the two years that we dated (before we got engaged in June 2011). It was rough to see a future together because of our financial situation, but I prayed that God would send us a sign that we were supposed to end up together. On our two year anniversary, Cam took me out to celebrate. He surprised me by taking me up to Kerry Park in Queen Anne and proposed to me! It was the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me! Of course, I said yes, and we’ve been planning our wedding ever since.

More about the awesome couple:

What are some of your favorite things to do together?

Cam and I love to go to sporting events together (football or soccer games), we typically hang around the house together, we walk my dog together, and we like to spend time with our family and friends. We've also gone to the ballet a few times together (he calls me Sleeping Beauty).

Why are you looking forward to getting married?

I'm looking forward to our life together. It's not so much about the wedding, and that special day, but really building a home and family together. We talk about our unborn children all the time and I think we are both excited about having kids! We both grew up in a similar type of environment and we are looking forward to passing on our values to our children (one day).

What do you love most about each other?

I love Cameron's compassion and he loves my sense of humor.

REAL WEDDINGS: Katie & Jared, July 2, 2011

Katie & Jared were an amazing couple to work with! It might seem like we say that about every couple, but we truly mean that. Katie is going to school to get her doctorate in nursing and Jared is a "handy man" carpenter. We met with Katie and her wonderful parents Ann & Ben just a few months before her wedding to get her some help finishing up with the planning since she is such a busy gal! It was a great pleasure getting to know both her family, and then Jared's family at the wedding, which included his brother Nathan who was the most amazing florist!

Katie & Jared's wedding took place at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture. The ceremony was in sort of a secret garden area, called the Goodfellow Grove, and the reception in the NHS Hall with cocktails in the outdoor garden area and dancing under the glass atrium.

The whole day had a truly organic and magical feel to it with the inspiring floral touches that Nathan and friends created, a wooden arbor, handmade by Jared himself, plenty of chinese lanterns and twinkle lights, and lanterns, right down to the the guest favors that were little flower shaped seed planters.

There was plenty of fun throughout the night including a photobooth provided by Say Cheez Photo Booth a grooms cake of an armadillo from Sweet Cakes Kirkland and Katie even busted out some of her fancy dance moves on the floor. (We heard she teaches salsa dancing!?)

At the end of the night the couple retreated to their town car after many goodbyes and headed off to a romantic evening at the Edgewater Hotel.

Going Green-One of the Hottest Trends in Weddings

It's no surprise that one of the hottest wedding trends the past couples years has been going green, not just in the color palette, but from everything from using sustainable local fair trade and organic products to reusable linens and china to wearing a rented or used wedding gown.

If you are interested in hopping on the green band wagon, whether it be your every day lifestyle, or you just feel like its the kind of statement you would love to make at your upcoming nuptials, here are six tips that you may find helpful:

1. Make sure you choose a great caterer! Catering plays a huge aspect in your wedding from making sure you use re-usable linens, silverware, china, glassware etc. Also, talk to your catering company to make sure they use local, fair trade sustainable products. You can even take the trend deeper to make sure they are doing their part in the office. For example, Green Apple Catering of Kirkland, WA teams up with Puget Sound Energy to install energy efficient, high performance, reduced wattage lighting & fixtures throughout their offices, tasting room and kitchen. They also recycle their old fixtures & bulbs as outlined by the Federal Energy Consortium, as well as their used vegetable oil by giving it to a BIO-DIESEL home-brewer.

2. Organize carpools for your guests, especially using hybrid vehicles. Or if the location is far for guests to drive or if you have a lot of out of town guests who will be with out a vehicle, arrange an economical shuttle. Even book your wedding night limo with companies that reduce their carbon footprint such as Seattle Green Limo.

3. When printing out any papers that have to do with your wedding such as itineraries, copies of contracts and even your programs- opt for recycled paper. Many couples these days are completely skipping out on programs feeling the paper is a waste, even skipping out on favors as well- or at least the kind that come in all the little paper bags or boxes--

4. Instead of giving out over 100 little paper boxes filled with candy to your guests as favor, try going green in a different way. Give out little plants, herbs, or even seeds as guest favors. These can all be put right back into the the environment and guests can use them later on and having something to remember the day by. You can even use herbs or plants as your centerpieces and opt to have guests take them home at the end of the evening.

5. Going green is not only a concept that can be good for the environment, but as you may have noticed, it can be good on your pocket book as well. One way is to purchase a used, yes used bridal gown. Blue Sky Bridal, in the Phinney/Greenwood Neighborhood of Seattle offers recycled and reconstructed wedding gowns, organic wedding dresses, and green wedding accessories.

6. Lastly, invitations...takes up a lot of paper-and can be costly if you want them to look nice! However a new local company, Greenvelope, created by Seattle founder Sam Franklin has put a new spin on on-line invitations and the going green aspect. Greenvelopes invites can be customed designed or you can use one of their templates, making invites that look just as alluring as the paper ones. As the guest receives the e-mailed invitation the envelope actually opens up and presents itself to you like opening an invite and allows you to RSVP now or later. You can even keep track of your guest RSVP's on the Greenvelope site.
